In the build-up towards Chwarae Teg's 20th Anniversary in 2012 we are launching a Design Contest.
The Chwarae Teg design contest is giving women who are studying in the creative disciplines, for example: art, graphic design, fashion, sculpture etc. the opportunity to create a fresh perspective on the importance of striving for fair play for women in Wales.
Using our existing green and purple 'ribbons' logo the objective is to create a piece of work that will show this symbol of 'Fairplay for Women' in a new and innovative context. It is open to female students based in Wales studying from A-level upwards at school, college or university.
As part of their prize the winner and two runners up will have their entries displayed in the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea for a period of 3 months starting on 8th March 2012.
Their work will form part of an exhibition to chart 20 years of Chwarae Teg's achievements in supporting the economic development of women in Wales.
The closing date for submissions is Sunday 18th December 2011.

My primary inspiration for this illustration was female aerial dancers. Their power and grace captivated me, and I believe they embodied some of the characteristics that Chwarae Teg promotes- skill, strength, and poise, which I believe are all important qualities for the development of women in the workplace, and I was compelled to utilize them to make a striking image. I was also very inspired by the description behind the Chwarae Teg ribbons logo, which is what the aerial dancers are using to perform their feat and are also featured at the centre of the image, which also focuses on the women reaching out to support each other, representing a more literal interpretation of the logo. I feel the word ‘support’ was quite important, and I wanted to communicate that with the women reaching out towards each other. The light and dark contrasts in the image were inspired by the idea of ‘ying-yang’, a balance, and equality, which is very important for fairplay for women in the workplace, in addition to the idea of coming together and meeting in the middle, which are themes I have attempted to communicate in my illustration.Want to get involved?
