29th June 2009

Chwarae Teg, the leading professional agency for the economic development of women in Wales, has been recognised in a prestigious national awards scheme for its Agile Nation project.

Agile Nation, a £12.5m project funded by the European Social Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government, has been short listed in the ‘Capacity Building Initiatives or Projects' category of the British Female Inventors & Innovators Network awards.

The awards form part of the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GWIIN) conference due to take place at the Cardiff Hilton on Tuesday 30 June.

Agile Nation Project Manager Hayley Dunne will attend an interview before the winners are announced at the awards dinner.

Agile Nation will tackle the difficulties women face in trying to progress in the workforce. The project will also promote flexible working initiatives to help employers retain a skilled workforce.

Hayley, who is leading the delivery of assistance to 2800 women and over 600 employers in Wales, said:

"We are delighted to have been short listed for this award. Through this project we are encouraging and facilitating innovative ways of working and raising awareness of the business benefits of flexible working."

Founder of the GWIIN, Bola Olabisi said:

"Chwarae Teg should be proud of their achievement; it is an organisation that truly advocates innovation, and the Agile Nation project is encouraging both women and businesses to be the best that they can be."
